Brookside Update 11/22/23
Happy Thanksgiving
On behalf on the Brookside Staff, we want to wish all out families a Happy Thanksgiving!
I also want to share our upcoming Toy Drive and spirit week. Each year the Brookside community teams up with the Dracut Fire Departments in an effort to spread some holiday cheer to some families in need. Donations of new, unwrapped gifts are being accepted as a “trade” for a homework pass, after all, one good deed deserves another! Homework passes can only be used once and not for any projects or tests. Donations can be dropped off in C-wing by Mrs. Cooke’s room (she will give you the homework pass or PAW) or in the box at the end of B-wing (see Mrs. Harries for your PAW).
To add to the fun we have some spirit days -
- Monday, December 4th. - Sport Shirt Day! Show your team spirit!
- Tuesday, December 5th - Inside-out Day! Wear something inside out!
- Wednesday, December 6th - Pajama Day no slippers (School appropriate and weather appropriate)
- Thursday, December 7th - Brookside Pride! Wear your favorite Brookside shirt or blue & white to show your school spirit!
- Friday, December 8th - Hat Day! Wear a hat, any hat, crazy or calm, it's up to you!

Halloween Parade Logistics
Here are the logistics for the school-wide Halloween Parade which will be held on Tuesday, October 31st. We will march around the circular driveway in front of the school. Around 1:45 PM a couple of students from our 5th Grade Student Council will be in each hallway directing classes to get in line to walk out to the loop. Each grade level should be in the circle in their spots no later than 1:55pm. The parade will begin promptly at 2:00 PM, signaled by the playing of music. Students cannot wear masks or have accessories, weapons or face make up and or blow up costumes. If you plan to dismiss your child, you must send in a note. After the parade, parents must check in with their child’s teacher before leaving school grounds.
Each grade should stay together in the following areas (see map below):
Students will parade by grade level around the circle one time, returning to their “spot” so that all the other grades can watch them. The parade will begin with K students, once they are back in their spot grade 1 will begin. Grade 5 will continue right back into the building through the lower doors following their loop around the circle, followed by 4th grade and then 3rd grade. Kindergarten will re-enter through the playground doors. Grades 1 and 2 will return to their classrooms through the front door.
Parents should be parked and in the circle by 1:45 PM to eliminate traffic driving through the area as classes are entering the circle. Cones will block off the circle area at 1:40 PM so parents can only enter the parking lot through the field parking after that time.

Brookside Buzz - Sunday, 10/15/23
Good Evening Brookside Families,
Wednesday is an early release day at 11:30. Our Trunk or Treat Night is this Friday from 6:00-7:30.
The Dracut Public schools will begin implementing a new protocol for bus students and walkers as of October 16, 2023. This will allow first (1st) and second (2nd) grade students to be dropped off at a bus stop with older siblings. To participate, parents must complete a waiver (attached). This waiver is an optional choice for families. If you choose not to participate your child will continue to ride the bus and have an adult meet them at the bus stop or walk home with siblings.
Kindergarten students will not be allowed to obtain a waiver and or walk home with siblings. We will continue to follow the protocol of parents or a designated adult meeting them at the bus stop. If no one is there for them then kindergarten students will be returned to their school.
Additionally, please be aware that families who have first and second grade students riding a bus or walking home who do not have older siblings or who do not complete the waiver will still need an adult to meet them at the school or the bus stop or they will be returned to their school and someone will be called to pick them up.
For Students Riding a Bus: Signed waiver forms must be emailed to your school principal, or dropped off to the school’s main office. After submitting the form, parents of bus students must bring their child’s current bus pass to the Business Office at 2063 Lakeview Ave. (hours 8:30 AM - 4PM Monday - Friday). They will be issued a new yellow bus pass at that time. This special bus pass will alert their bus driver that their child is allowed to walk home or be dropped off with older siblings. This will also be noted on the bus’s route sheet.
For Walkers: Signed waiver forms must be emailed to your school principal, or dropped off to the school’s main office. If your child is a walker, the school will notify dismissal staff that the student is allowed to walk home with an older sibling.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly. The letter and waiver are attached to this email.

We had a wonderful first three days of school. Thank you for being patient as we work out some of the kinks in our procedures and with the bus company.
Please check the district website for new bus times. Times were adjusted as new stops were added to bus routes. Here is the link:

Friendly reminder for parent drop off in the morning. For safety concerns, please do not release your child from the car until it has pulled up to the teachers on duty. Students are being released too early in the line up and walking in between cars, which is a safety concern.
Monday is the first day of preschool. Preschool parents should stop at the second sign entering the school loop that says one way. You must park your car here and walk your child to the preschool entrance.
We will have a PTO meeting in person and virtual on Sept. 19th at 6:30 in the library. A link will be shared before the meeting.
Thank you for your support! Have a great evening.
