May 2021Sunday Message from Principal Smith
Hello Parent or Guardian, I have just a few messages for the upcoming week.
*** Sunday Message from Principal Smith Moving On Ceremony Hello Parent or Guardian, The 5th Grade Moving on Ceremony will be held on June 14, 2021 in the Brookside Gymnasium. DATV will record the ceremony for your later viewing and at your convenience. Only students in 5th grade and related staff are permitted to attend. Please see the link below to provide permission for your child to be video taped if he or she is going to attend. Although we are doing our best to maintain as much normality as possible we must consider all restrictions and the safety of our students while doing so. Fortunately, we have a few fun opportunities in store for our 5th graders: https://5il.co/t69l On June 11th students will be treated with ice cream sundaes after lunch and for the remainder of the day will participate in outside activities within their classrooms. On June 14th students will participate in the Moving on Ceremony and then will receive a gift cinch bag with a t-shirt and yearbook. Students will also be provided time within the day for classroom yearbook signatures. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or the main office. Have a pleasant evening, Ms. Dawn Smith *** Sunday Message from Principal Smith Hello Parent or Guardian, We’ve completed the MCAS- ELA and Math tests in grades 3 with only one absence, which is outstanding. This week Grade 4 will be taking the MCAS ELA and Math on Wednesday and Thursday and the following week Grade 5 will take the MCAS ELA, Math and Science tests. As always, I appreciate your support and encouragement during these important test days. Thank you in advance for helping support their attendance on those testing days. Just in case you didn't see the message from Superintendent Stone: It explains... Vaccine Opportunities for Children 12 and Older: The Pfizer vaccine is available for children 12 and older at LGH's Cross River Center, 1001 Pawtucket Boulevard East, Lowell. Appointments are available 7:15-3:15 weekdays and Saturdays. https://lowellgeneralvaccine.com/ That concludes my message for this week. As always, thank you for your continued support and have a pleasant evening. Kind regards, Principal Smith *** Sunday Message from Principal Smith Good Afternoon Parent or Guardian, Attached to this week’s email is an optional Placement Questionnaire for your review. This questionnaire gives you an opportunity to share any significant information about your child’s academic or socio-emotional needs as we begin the placement process for the next school year. https://forms.gle/VsvHL7J9uEcZ2dKd8 It been brought to my attention that many students on our buses are eating the bagged breakfast that is sent home with them in the afternoon. Bus drivers are cleaning the trash and crumbs, but most concerning is the safety and health protocols that are being violated. In addition, students are taking their masks down and touching their food and mouths without washing or sanitizing their hands. Please remind your child or children that eating on the bus is not allowed at any time. Library Books: There are many library books that are still outstanding. Anyone with an outstanding library will receive an overdue slip with the amount for reimbursement. This is very important regarding absences: Please state the reason for your child’s absence when you call in. Otherwise, Mrs. Treska will need to call you and ask for the reason. The reason for your child’s absence is necessary in order for him or her to return to school. No Toys are allowed in school. (Pop It’s, Putty, Stress Balls, etc). If there is a need of any of sensory item it must be noted in your child’s IEP, 504 plan or established by his or her liaison. I appreciate your support as we are doing everyting possible to keep our students safe, healthy and in school. Sincerely, Ms. Smith |

Sunday Message from Principal Smith
Hello Parent or Guardian,
Our first week with most of our return students went very well. Students and staff were enthusiastic and happy to be back together.
With the increase of students we have doubled the number of cars dropping off and picking up students. Thank you for all your corporation and patience as we continue to make improvements and adjustments with our procedure.
Lining the cars by four to drop off or pick up has worked out very well. It’s also most helpful to have your student ready with mask on and seatbelt off when dropping off. I have also noticed many parents cutting the line. This is happening at the circle and buses have had to ask people to move. Please be advised that only four cars can be parked at the entrance to and exit out of the circle in order for the busses to get through. Thank you to the parents who helped with some suggestions regarding the congestion and back-up of cars.
Pool testing is on Tuesdays. If you wish to be added to the weekly pool testing, please contact the main office or email me and I will send you a Parent Consent Form.
Please remember to send students in with an extra mask in case of sneezing, food accidents or wear and tear on original mask.
Also, please remind your child about social distancing now that our classroom numbers have increased.
Mrs. Snowdon would like you to bring back any library books. There’s a collection bin outside of the library.
A message from Food Service: Students are asked to bring breakfast home every day to eat the next morning. If students don’t typically take breakfast or want it at any time, please allow them to take it and perhaps give it to a friend, neighbor or save it for another time.
Kind regards,
Principal Smith

Good Afternoon Parent or Guardian,
I hope all is well and you are enjoying the new, full-time in school learning as much as our staff and students. The parent drop off and pick up has increased two-fold now that most of our students are in school. Having observed the last two days, I see that there are a few ways to improve the time line and congestion problems, The following are the first that come to mind:
All cars must stay in the line and wait patiently. No cutting the line or driving past all cars to park in the parking lot and walk your child out of the car and into the building. To help facilitate this, a police officer will help direct traffic in the morning and afternoon.
Mr. Baker or another staff member will direct you to pull up to him/her, leaving enough space behind you for four cars to fit in the loading and drop off area. Please pull up as close to the car in front of you to provide space for four cars.
Please pull up and out of the line if you need to secure your child in his/her seat-belt to prevent a hold-up in the line.
Lastly, please inform your child of his/her car number. If you do not have a number hanging in the front window, please print your child's name of a sign and hold it in the window.
Thank you for your cooperation. We're doing everything possible to make this drop off and pick up time as speedy and safe as possible. If you have any suggestions, please email me. I'm always looking to improve our procedures.
Have a pleasant evening.

A Message from RLA Principal Hill
Good Morning RLA K-5 Students and Families,
Thank you again for the patience and perseverence we all have shown this year. One could never have predicted where we would be at this point in the school year, around the corner from a well deserved April vacation. I am emailing to let you know that our RLA teachers (including Mrs. Archambault, Ms. Cunnigham and Ms. Dolan) have determined a list of instructional materials for each grade level that would be helpful during these final months and into the summer. We have prepared individual bags for students in grades K-5 and will be distrbuting them this Tuesday and Thursday. This includes all former RLA students who either left after the third trimester and those transitioning in today. Please see the attached flyer for all the details.
Thank you,
Mr. Hill and Ms. Curtis

Special Message from RLA Principal Hill
Good Morning K-5 RLA Student and Families,
This email will provide an update on the anticipated changes within the RLA including the three RLA teachers who will be moving into the Full In-Person model on April 5th and the plans for the remaining students impacted directly and indirectly.
The 52 students who decided to transition to in-person for the final trimester on the 22nd have completed their first full week. We wish them the best for a successful end of the school year. These families will be reclassified as in-person and will no longer receive information from myself pertaining to the RLA.
Approximately 60 additional RLA students/families decided to return to school for Full In-Person on April 5th. These students will be notified of their new classroom teacher early next week.
Mrs. Archambault, Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Dolan will be leaving the RLA and transitioning to Full In-Person classes within the Englesby and Campbell Elementary Schools.
Remaining RLA students from Mrs. Archambault, Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Dolan will be integrated into the other 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classes within the RLA beginning on the 5th. They should expect their new teacher to reach out to them early next week.
This has been quite a year and yet, all things considered, I am proud of the efforts of our RLA teachers and support staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached at (978) 957-2617 or dhill@dracutps.org.

Hello Parent or Guardian,
I hope you had a fun filled, healthy vacation and are ready to resume in school and remote learning. This week we welcome back Cohort A.
Please remember to check your child’s mask for proper fit. We’ve noticed a lot students are struggling to keep their masks on their face when they’re talking. If the mask is too big or stretched out they fall off, which is in a way a good thing and speaks to their diligence and faithful mask wearing throughout the school day.
Also, a reminder regarding absences. Please remember to call the school stating your child’s name, grade or teacher and most importantly, reason for their absence.
If your child is out due to COVID related reasons and is well enough to attend remotely, he/or she may do so. Mrs. Treska will inform the teacher to be sure your child is allowed to access the meeting times and instruction. All other absences will be marked absent and students are not allowed to access remotely.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.

Sunday Message from Principal Smith
Hello Parent or Guardian,
We had a great week with Cohort A despite the storm and remote learning day. Students and staff did a great job making the best of the remote learning day and still finding time to have some fun in the snow. Thank you for your support and flexibility. This upcoming week we welcome back Cohort B.
On Wednesday, February 10th we have Early Release for the students and Professional Development for the staff. Students will be dismissed at 11:30am and breakfast and lunch will be served.
Also, please see the attached flyer about the next SEPAC virtual meeting.
Mid-winter vacation begins at the close of the school day on Friday, February 12th. We will return with Cohort A on February 22nd.
And that wraps it up for the upcoming week. Best wishes for a healthy, fun vacation week.

Hello Parent or Guardian,
This week we welcome back Cohort A. We have a full week ahead and please remember to send students in dressed warm for outside recess and mask breaks.
Please take a moment to read the attached letter from Superintendent Stone regarding Comcast’s limited data: https://5il.co/p1rd
Also, a reminder to return any Brookside library books. Mrs. Snowdon has a box for returns outside of the library.
And lastly, please see the letter from Superintendent Stone on the Brookside Elementary School website: https://www.dracutps.org/o/bes/news in the news section announcing the appointment of Lindsey Howe as the next Brookside Principal. Lindsey is an excellent choice and will be an outstanding addition and leader to the Brookside family. She will begin on July 1st just ahead of my retirement. We will work together to make this transition as smooth as possible. It has been my honor and privilege to work with the Brookside community. I will miss the students, staff and families who I have served for the last 10 years.
Have a healthy week and stay safe,
Sincerely,

Sunday Message from Principal Smith
Hello Parent or Guardian,
We had a productive week with Cohort A last week and I even had a chance to say hi to many of our in school and remote learners. It’s so impressive to see the work the teachers and students are doing and how they’ve mastered the technology we’ve been challenged with this year.
This week we welcome back Cohort B for in-school learning. On Wednesday, January 27th, we have an Early Release Day for students. Breakfast and lunch will be served and dismissal will be at 11:30am.
Please remember to send your students in with appropriate winter clothing. We continue to go outside for mask breaks and recess whenever the weather cooperates.
That wraps it up for the upcoming week.
Thank you for your continued support and have a healthy week.
Sincerely,
Principal Smith

Hello Parent or Guardian,
I have a a few reminders and an important message.
There’s no school on Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
On Tuesday, January 19th we welcome back Cohort A for in-school learning.
And lastly, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is removing the requirement for flu vaccination for attendance in childcare/preschool, elementary, and secondary education. Preliminary data show that this has been a mild flu season to date, presumably as people have received their seasonal flu vaccine and have been adhering to mask-wearing and social distancing due to COVID-19.
Thank you to all who have complied with the flu vaccine and for you patience throughout these ever changing
requirements and protocols.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call ad we’re happy to help.
Sincerely,
Principal Smith
